A Radiographic study of temporomandibular joint space

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to measure the joint space of T. M. J. and to evaluate its accuracy and duplication of spatial relationship between the condyle-and-mandibular fossa of radiograms made by different techniques.
The author used 4 different techniques, tomography and lateral transcranial projection using Eastman stand, 200 angle board and Acquired 100 by Denar Co. Material for this study was a dry skull with normal occlusion.
The results were as follows:
1. There was a significant difference between each of the radiographic techniques.
2. In comparison of the fidelity of radiographs of the joint space made by different techniques, Acquired 100 showed the highest values in lateral and central surface, but topography showed the highest values in medial surface.
3. The sequence of enlargement of the image was in order of lateral, central, and medial surface, respectively.
